TFFF provides these resources at no charge to residents of Oregon and Siskiyou County, Calif. Keep them, share them. The only requirement is  that you provide a review on the publication ordered once you've read it.

Note: One copy per title, per person. TFFF designed this program to encourage an individual's growth. They do not send multiple copies to one person or to an organization to distribute. The views expressed by the authors in these books are not necessarily the views of The Ford Family Foundation.

Apply for Public Benefits:

Energy Assistance:

Every winter, organizations offer energy assistance by helping pay electric bills. AmeriCorps members may qualify for energy assistance, so be sure to connect with the program in your service region. They could potentially pay your energy bill in full!

United Communities members may consider enrolling if:

Dream$avers is an Individual Development Account which is a 5:1 asset building match savings program funded by the State.

Participants can save for 6 months up to 3 years towards education (college, vocational, certificates, ect…), home buying, home repair, assistive technology for employment (includes dental), small business development (starting or growing) or buying a car.

Participants receive a maximum of $9,000 in match funds if they save $1,800, for a total of $10,800.

SW Oregon Farmer's Markets:

If you are receiving Food Stamps/SNAP benefits, check whether your local market has a Double-Up Food Bucks matching program that will support your benefits in stretching further on local, nutritious food!

COVID-19 Resources:

If a member has to quarantine/isolate due to COVID-19, we are here to support you. Below is a tangible list of supports that may be useful:

Grocery Delivery Process:

Douglas County: Place an online grocery order with Roseburg Fred Meyers for 10 AM pick-up on Mondays & Thursdays. Members must create an online Fred Meyer profile to manage order(s). Online payment accepted via debit/credit, however UCA will support members enrolled with SNAP in using their benefits (additional steps detailed below). Members should place orders at least one day in advance and immediately notify UCA staff to let them know an order must be picked-up. UCA staff will then pick-up and deliver the groceries to the members' doorstep.

Outside Communities: talk with your host site to see if they are able to provide deliveries using our process listed above. If not, notify UCA staff and we will try and coordinate a volunteer in your community to provide grocery deliveries on our behalf.

Using SNAP Benefits? Since many online ordering systems are unable to accept an EBT card online, the individual picking up grocery order must be added by DHS as an alternate payee on the member's benefit account. To set this up, the member must complete and sign the Payee Section of the Authorized Representative and Alternate Payee form and submit it to UCA. Once signed by the member and the payee, UCA will deliver to DHS. DHS will then issued a card to the payee so they may access your benefits and pay for the grocery order at pick-up.

Emergency Deliveries:

If you are unable to contact your Host Site or United Communities staff regarding an emergent need (food, medication, etc.), your local public health department may be able to support you. Please call the local COVID hotline near you:

Internet Access for Teleservice:

If a member does not have internet access at home but would like to teleserve during their quarantine/isolation period, they should contact their host site to inquire about a WiFi Hotspot (to be used for service related activities only). If the host site is unable to provide this accommodation, United Communities may be able to offer assistance. The member should contact UCA staff about options after inquiring with their host site.

Regional Resources:

United Communities members have been adventuring around SW Oregon since 2009, and here is a map of our alumni's favorite things to do, places to see, and hidden gems throughout our region (and other parts of the state!

We hope that it inspires great adventures, and maybe you'll even find your own hidden gem you wish to share with future members by marking it on the map.
